At a glance
- Target: WCAG 2.2 level AA across the site, checked automatically on every change and by hand on new pages.
- The broadcast is captioned line by line and is also a podcast and a text transcript; nothing is audio-only or video-only.
- Everything works from the keyboard; the site honors your reduced-motion and color-scheme settings.
- Found a barrier? info+paranormal@greenrobot.com — we answer within a few days.
The broadcast
The 3D studio is decoration; the information is in the text. Each line the anchors speak is shown as a caption as it is read, every story is listed with its source under the player, and the same script is published on the story pages and in the podcast. The anchors are faceless silhouettes, so there are no lips to read: the captions carry every word. If your device cannot run the 3D scene, the page falls back to a plain audio player with the same captions. Playback can be paused, restarted and muted from the keyboard.
What we do
- Semantic HTML: one heading structure per page, landmarks, labeled form controls, a skip link to the main content.
- Keyboard: every control is reachable and operable with Tab, Enter and Space, with a visible focus indicator.
- Color and motion: text meets AA contrast in the light and dark themes; animations stop when your system asks for reduced motion.
- Text: pages reflow to 400% zoom without horizontal scrolling; no information is carried by color alone.
- Testing: automated checks (axe rules through pa11y) run on the main pages in our build pipeline, and new pages are tried with VoiceOver before they ship.
Known limitations
- The 3D studio itself is not described to screen readers beyond its caption text; it is not meant to carry information, but the scene is not narrated.
- Third-party embeds (a podcast directory badge, an ad unit) are outside our control and may not meet our standard.
- Machine-written summaries occasionally use abbreviations without expanding them; the Knowledge Base glossary covers the common ones.
